There are twenty-two Chapters in the book Fellowship of the Ring. Technically, each published book consisted of two parts, called 'books'. Book I consists of the first twelve chapters, and Book II consists of the next ten. So, what are your personal favorite chapters? I know it can be hard to pinpoint so you can select four. It will be nice to hear the reasons of your selections, and maybe you have some honorable mentions?
My choices are two from each 'book' ... Book I: The Shadow of the Past and A Knife in the Dark. Book II: The Council of Elrond and The Breaking of the Fellowship
These chapters really filled my head with the whole adventure and had some of the deepest scenes in them for me. Of course, the honorable mentions are A Long-expected Party and A Journey in the Dark.

I'm planning on doing a re-read of the entire trilogy after I finish my current re-read of Unfinished Tales, so I'm sure I'll be able to give a more in depth opinion once I've started! But I remember that when I first read FotR at 15, the chapter with the Barrow Wights and Old Man Willow held me absolutely spellbound - there was a sense of the world of Middle-Earth being ancient and mysterious, and I was dying to know about this Dark Power of the North that was mentioned as the cause of this weird patch of old evil right next to the Shire. Hence I am now very much obsessed with all things First Age! A little off topic, my apologies Hanasian, I thought the Council of Elrond is a very exciting chapter too. Watching (reading, in this case) the representatives of all these other cultures and races come together and decide to defeat evil together is pretty epic! Again, when I do my big re-read, I'll probably wax lyrical on every little detail I liked about it.
